TL Has Too Many Craft Supplies? NEVER... (also, yes...)

It's been awhile, friends! I haven't stopped creating, I just haven't been posting.

I thought I'd kick off my first blog post in awhile with a funny story.

You know...I have a lot of crafty things. Stamps, dies, embossing folders, inks, patterned paper, cardstock... I think ANY type of crafter can relate.  I buy things when they are on sale, or just in case I think I will use them.

Well, this story starts out with a new purchase... one of the new Tim Holtz Sizzix releases called "Cozy Winter." I watched Tim's live release on YouTube and hemmed and hawed about getting it. I held out about 2 months before I got it.

The dies allowed me to create these cute lil gems:

The fact that the bear was holding a coffee cup was actually the part of the die collection that sold me.  The collection also came with some snowflakes and a woodpecker sitting on a limb - but the bear with the coffee cup - THAT did it.

It honestly took awhile for me to put together all four (such tiny pieces!) but the time was well worth it. I'm also going to put together a polar bear one - I think that would be super cute for a Christmas/Winter card!

Anyway, I created these bears with no thought of the background that I wanted to put them on. I thought about it for a couple of days and then it came to me... I NEED A FOREST background. Yes. Yes, that's what I need. I WISH I HAD A FOREST DIE. What do I do when I feel like I need something quickly? I head to my phone and bury myself in pages and pages of Amazon product.

I found a forest die. It was pretty much exactly what I was looking for, and the price was ok. It was an unbranded die, and I usually don't buy those but I was desperate because I NEEDED A FOREST DIE.

I ordered it. It came. This is what I got:

Needless to say, I was a bit disappointed. It was indeed what I was looking for, only much smaller than I anticipated. I wanted trees big enough to do a landscape card front (so, roughly 5.25"). They showed sample cards on the listing, so I did think it was the size I wanted - but they also showed accurate measurements - I just didn't pay attention.  I'm sure I will use it for something, someday.

So my grumbling self was on the hunt for another option. I came across a Tim Holtz die called Tree Line. Now, this is EXACTLY what I was looking for.  I started comparing prices.

Then, I stopped.  A little voice in my head said, "This looks so familiar..."

I rushed to my craft area, and took out my Tim Holtz "stuff."  Stuff that I organized into one bin LESS THAN 1 MONTH AGO.  And lo and behold, there was Tree Line. Perfection.

It is not like I have loads and loads of Tim Holtz stuff (but I'm trying to haha). I have 1 bin, and it's not even full. I have 13 dies - this is the only one that is not strictly Christmas. I can't believe I forgot I had it. And, I especially can't believe I forgot I had it after just reorganizing less than 1 month ago.  I'm just glad I did not reorder it!

Oh, and this is my background!  The sky is blended with CTMH Carolina. I obviously used my Tree Line Die, cut out of Mossy Meadow SU! cardstock, and embossed with SU! Tasteful Textile to give it some texture.  I inked the cardstock with CTMH White Daisy pigment ink and then I covered it with SU! Iridescent Ice embossing powder so the forest had a nice sparkly sheen.  The snow banks were created with a couple of unbranded border dies.  I also used CTMH's Stitched Rectangles to cut out the main rectangle.

I do think it is perfect for a little, coffee drinking bear. I just have to put the bear on the card now :)

Thanks for checking out my little crafty corner of the internet.  I hope to be here more often.

Merry Christmas Slimline

I did another card from this week's  Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge  (sketch #469). This time, I did a Christmas card! I used Gina K's woodgraining technique (you can find a tutorial here ). I also used Distress Frosted Crystal embossing powder; here's a close-up of the effect: For the snowflakes and the sentiment, I cut the shapes out twice and glued them together to make them thicker. Very happy with how this one turned out! :) Supplies : Dies: Merry Christmas sentiment (unbranded), Tim Holtz Sizzix Holiday Greens Mini, Pink & Main Stitched Slimline, SU! Snowfall Thinlits Paper: SU! Mossy Meadow, Real Red and Very Vanilla cardstock, Recollections Gold Foil cardstock Ink: Distress Oxide Vintage Photo, SU! The inspiration for this week in the  Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge : This is my interpretation of the sketch: I was so excited to do this sketch, because I remembered that I had some White Daisy Circle Spin cards from CTMH that I'd never used... this is the perfect sketch to use them with! Snowflakes in June?!

Not real ones, thankfully! I've been watching some of Gina K's Lives for the past couple of weeks. On Friday, she showed some masculine cards, and I was just blown away by her woodgrain technique that she showcased in her video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYiy54o2YC8&t=18s ).  It might be an old technique, but I hadn't seen it before so I was amazed and quickly completed some backgrounds on the weekend.  If you haven't seen the technique, watch the video - seriously, it's awesome AND easy. I also watched her Merry Monday Live, on well...Monday. She showed a "carved wood" technique.  MIND BLOWN AGAIN. (See it here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MwvaMa7Zc0&t=15s ) So, I thought I would try my hand at making "carved wood."  Now, I don't have many stencils, and I did try one, but couldn't get an impression. I used an embossing folder from SU! called Winter Wonder.  Apparently this is an old technique that she used to d
