No More Excuses: Cut Above Kits Make Handmade Easy-Peasy

(Sorry for the glare on the pic! Still taking Smartphone pics...)

I am not generally a fan of pre-fab card kits. I don't know if that makes me a "handmade card snob" but I don't care. I love designing cards from scratch. It is my preference.

That being said, I did order CTMH's Cut Above Christmas card kit (Z2064) and the coordinating Merriest Christmas stamp set (B1468). I decided to put the cards together last night, while watching television.

Included in the kit are:

10 – 7" × 5" Printed Card Bases (very nice quality!)
10 – Printed Banners
10 – Colonial White Deer
10 – Red Sparkles
12 – 3-D Foam Squares
10 – Glitter Paper Pieces
10 – Coordinating Envelopes
4 yards Red and White Baker's Twine (more than enough to make the 10 cards!)

Supplies I used (in addition to what was in the kit):

-Adhesive: I used Liquid Glass (Z679) to adhere Rudolph to the glitter cardstock, as I find most other adhesives don't hold well to the glitter. Regular tape runner adhesive to affix the rest. Note: the banner with the sentiment is adhered with 3D foam squares that are included with the kit.
-Ink: CTMH Cranberry. The kit suggests CTMH Ruby, but...I don't have Ruby. I think the Cranberry looks fantastic
-Stamps: As I mentioned, I used the Merriest Christmas set. But you can use whatever set you want, as long as it fits on the banner.
-Misc Tools: tweezers (make getting the bling off the sheet so much easier!), 2"x2" acrylic block, scissors

I am in the process of unpacking and organizing my craft space...so it took me a minute (or 20) to locate all of supplies I needed.

The kit was super easy to put together (less than an hour, including a few minutes for the Liquid Glass to set) and ended up being super cute. I showed a card to a co-worker and she lamented not having bought the kit!

Word of caution: if you are using Liquid Glass, please use sparingly! :)

I still prefer designing my own cards (or CASE'ing them from other designers) but the Cut Above cards are awesome if you are in a rush. 10 cards in less than an hour? I'm in. I think they might also be good for a kiddos crafting afternoon. Kids love to craft!

Merry Christmas Slimline

I did another card from this week's  Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge  (sketch #469). This time, I did a Christmas card! I used Gina K's woodgraining technique (you can find a tutorial here ). I also used Distress Frosted Crystal embossing powder; here's a close-up of the effect: For the snowflakes and the sentiment, I cut the shapes out twice and glued them together to make them thicker. Very happy with how this one turned out! :) Supplies : Dies: Merry Christmas sentiment (unbranded), Tim Holtz Sizzix Holiday Greens Mini, Pink & Main Stitched Slimline, SU! Christmas Vibes - in May?

I'm participating in the Spring/Summer Coffee Lovers Blog Hop .  My card is does not have a Spring/Summer theme - but it's never too early for Christmas, right? Last year, I started my Christmas cards in January - this year, I waited until yesterday to make my first Christmas card.  I just haven't been feeling the Christmas vibe so far this year. You Did It!

It has been awhile since I participated in the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge , so yesterday I popped on to see what the sketch was this week. I need a graduation card for my niece who is graduating from elementary school this June, so I thought I'd allow this sketch to give me inspiration! This is what I came up with:  I made it in the school colours (red and gray).  This is also (I think) the first time I've ever made a slimline card. I like how it turned out!
