My grandmother passed away almost 4 years ago. I was given some things from her house, including a large batch of sympathy cards she received when my Mom passed away in 2008. 47 cards, to be exact. I didn't want to throw them all away, because they still mean a lot to me - they mean that people were thinking about our family through one of our darkest times.
But at the same time, these cards, sitting in a Ziploc bag on one of my craft shelves were not doing anything but taking up space. When I saw this week's AHSC sketch, I had an idea...

Interpretation:
This is probably the first scrapbook page I have done in 5 years; I have been concentrating on doing cards, mini albums and other altered projects.
I used quite a few of the sympathy cards on this layout. I suspect this is the beginning of a double page spread, as I still have so many cards left. I included some personal notes that people had written about my Mom (but you probably can't notice them from the picture). It was somewhat therapeutic, putting this lay-out together. It reminded me how much people thought of my Mom (because she was awesome!) On the flip side of the tag with my Mom's picture, I did a little journalling. Hate my handwriting, but it is what it is! :)
I feel like the layout is still not finished... it is missing something. But I'll let it sit for awhile before I change anything. Thanks for looking!
Supplies:
Cardstock: CTMH White Daisy and Kraft, SU! Cherry Cobbler (because I know my Mom would LOVE that colour)
Rub-On: Karen Foster Designs
Die Cuts: SU! Deco Labels framelits
Etc: SU! Cherry Cobbler Scalloped Tulle Ribbon, CTMH Neutral Baker's Twine, white, Provocraft Alphabitties, wedge black

What a fantastic tribute and way to remember your mother's friends. I understand the importance of these cards. I still have a few that my friends sent directly to me when my mom passed away, sadly my dad took the rest and I have no idea where they may have gone.
ReplyDeleteSuch a nice keepsake, love your idea.

What a wonderful idea and healing layout to do. I can only imagine how difficult this was to put together. It is beautiful and I hope that you do finish the other side in just as remarkable as fashion as this side. Glad we could provide a starting point for you. Thanks for sharing this with us at AH.
